bet365 launched its online sportsbook in Washington, DC on 8 September, taking the operator into its 19th US jurisdiction, and signed a multi-year partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) covering the Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals and Washington Mystics.

The app carries markets across more than 100 sports with live betting and in-game features. New customers in the District get $50 in bonus bets after a $10 first wager.

“Bringing bet365 to our nation’s capital expands our reach in the US and establishes our presence in one of the country’s most dynamic sports markets,” said Trip Stoddard, head of development at bet365.

What the Monumental deal covers

bet365 becomes an official partner of all three MSE franchises: the Wizards in the NBA, the Capitals in the NHL and the Mystics in the WNBA. The agreement includes virtual signage during Capitals games and pre-game and in-game commercials across all three teams’ broadcasts, with branding at Capital One Arena and CareFirst Arena.

bet365 is also presenting sponsor of Monumental Game Center, which puts real-time odds and overlays into MSE’s live streams.

Neither company disclosed the financial terms or the length of the agreement beyond describing it as multi-year.

The launch offer list is built around in-play settlement. The Early Payout Offer pays out NBA bets when a team leads by 20 points, WNBA bets at an 18-point lead and NHL bets at a three-goal lead, regardless of the final result. An Early Bird Special applies a profit boost to Sunday NFL games in the hour before kickoff.

A seven-operator market with three tax rates

bet365 is the seventh sportsbook licensed to run a district-wide app in DC, joining BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, Fanatics, FanDuel and theScore Bet. The 2024 framework caps district-wide operators at seven, according to Legal Sports Report, which puts bet365 in the final slot.

The District taxes those apps at different rates depending on licence class. Class A licences are tied to the four major sports venues, Audi Field, Capital One Arena, Nationals Park and St. Elizabeths East, and pay 20% of gross gaming revenue. Class B covers on-site betting at bars and restaurants at 10%, with no citywide app. Class C is the route that pairs a DC-area sports team with an operator: it requires a $2 million non-refundable application fee, a sportsbook licensed and operating in at least five US jurisdictions, and 30% of gross gaming revenue to the city.

bet365 clears the five-jurisdiction test with 18 states behind it. The launch announcement did not name the licence class it holds, and the DC Office of Lottery and Gaming’s most recent published licence list, revised 30 April 2026, predates the approval.

DC ran a single sportsbook from 2020 to 2024, GambetDC, operated by Intralot under a no-bid contract and criticised over uncompetitive pricing. FanDuel replaced it as the citywide app in March 2024, and the DC Council opened the market to multiple operators in a July 2024 budget vote.

The District is also one of four US markets that allow betting from age 18, alongside Wyoming, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, according to Legal Sports Report.

Where bet365 lands in the DC numbers

DC sportsbooks took $64.2 million in wagers in July 2026 and held $6.13 million in gross gaming revenue, a 9.56% hold and 14.7% growth on the $55.9 million handled in July 2025, according to figures compiled by RG.org.

FanDuel took 38.2% of July handle and 50.9% of revenue, at $3.12 million, and paid $624,742 in tax, 42.9% of the District’s total collection for the month. DraftKings handled $19.8 million. Four of the five Class B licensees reported no activity at all in July, with only Sports & Social taking bets, at $40,621.

On those volumes, DC is a small market by US standards. The MSE agreement gives bet365 three professional teams inside a single ownership group, plus a media asset attached to them, in a city where it starts from no customer base.

Fourth North American launch since April

DC is bet365’s fourth new North American market in five months, after Michigan in April, Alberta in July and West Virginia in August. The West Virginia entry took it to 18 US states with both a sportsbook and an online casino. DC permits sports betting only, so the DC product is sportsbook alone.

bet365 joined the Sports Betting Alliance in June 2025, alongside DraftKings, FanDuel and Fanatics.
