bet365 opened its online sportsbook and casino in West Virginia on 27 August, its 18th US sports betting state and the fourth where it runs both products in the same market.
The West Virginia Lottery granted the operator an interim licence in January 2026 and approved a full annual licence on 29 July, according to SBC Americas, which reported the 27 August go-live date. The same report puts the number of licensed online sportsbook operators in the state at 10. Both products are open to customers aged 21 and over.
bet365 has brought the same feature set it used in its other recent US openings. Early Payout Offer settles a qualifying moneyline football bet as a win once the backed team leads by 17 points. Jackpot365, a multi-tier progressive jackpot, runs across betslips and casino games. There is also a free-to-play game, Daily Prize Matcher. The company says its platform covers more than 100 sports and streams over 1 million events a year.
Acquisition terms at launch are “Bet $10, Get $150 + 50 Spins” on sports and a $1,000 deposit match with 1,000 free spins on casino.
“West Virginia represents another important step in bet365’s continued expansion across North America,” said Trip Stoddard, head of development at bet365. “With football season just around the corner, it’s an exciting time to introduce our sportsbook and casino offerings to customers across the state.”
The market bet365 is entering
The West Virginia Lottery reported $1.33 billion in total revenue for the fiscal year ended 30 June 2026, its sixth consecutive year above $1 billion. iGaming accounted for $439.2 million of that, up around 42% year on year, or roughly a third of lottery revenue. Transfers to the state reached $582.9 million, $58 million more than in FY2025.
Combined sports betting and iGaming wagers hit $2.52 billion in Q1 2026, up 11% on the same period a year earlier, according to Gaming Intelligence.
The competitive picture is concentrated. Online casino revenue was about $39 million in June 2026, up 41% year on year, with DraftKings at $13 million and a 34% share, BetMGM at 22% and FanDuel at 22%, according to PlayWV. That leaves around 22% for every other brand in the state. bet365 will compete with BetRivers, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, Ember Casino & Sportsbook, Fanatics, FanDuel and theScore Bet.
The scale of the prize is modest next to bet365’s other new US casino market. Michigan produced $289.2 million in iGaming revenue in June, more than seven times the West Virginia figure for the same month.
Six North American markets in 13 months
West Virginia closes a run of launches that started in August 2025 with Kansas and Maryland. bet365 added Missouri in December 2025, Michigan in April 2026 with both sportsbook and casino, and Alberta in July 2026, also with both products, when the province opened to private operators. It launched in Illinois and Tennessee earlier in 2025.
Michigan was bet365’s 17th US state. West Virginia is its 18th, and only its fourth dual sportsbook and casino market, which leaves most of its US footprint in sports betting alone.
Where the tax rates stand
West Virginia taxes online sports betting at 10% of gross revenue and iGaming at 15%, among the lowest rates in the US.
Delegate Adam Burkhammer introduced two bills in January 2026 to raise both to 25%. HB 4397 covers online casino gaming and HB 4398 covers sports wagering. Both were filed on 16 January and referred to the House Government Organization and House Local Governments committees the same day. Neither has a recorded action since. The rates are unchanged.
West Virginia has collected around $72.5 million in sports wagering tax since betting began in late 2018, according to SBC Americas. In November 2025 the state took $1.2 million in tax on $52.7 million of sports wagers.
