Las Vegas Sands Chairman and CEO Patrick Dumont and his wife, Sivan Dumont, raised their Dallas Mavericks stake to 69% after buying Miriam Adelson’s shares in October 2026, according to ESPN. The couple are now the NBA team’s controlling owners. Terms were not disclosed.
The Dallas Mavericks stake
Miriam Adelson, Sivan Dumont’s mother and the widow of Sands founder Sheldon Adelson, bought the majority stake from Mark Cuban in December 2023 together with her daughter and son-in-law. Patrick Dumont has been the team’s governor since then, and ESPN reported that Adelson had little involvement in running the club.
Cuban keeps a 27% stake. Under the 2023 sale terms, Dumont has the right to buy another 20% from Cuban at the original $3.5bn valuation, and he told ESPN the family would pursue that purchase over time. Cuban has said publicly that he regrets the sale, citing his exclusion from basketball and business decisions.
“It’s really about long-term investment in the city of Dallas.”

Dumont also addressed Cuban’s criticism directly. “I love Mark,” he told ESPN, describing the former majority owner as a passionate Mavericks fan who is frustrated.
Arena plans and the Macao model
Dumont said the family is committed to building what it hopes will be the best arena in the NBA, a home for the team for the next 40 years.
ESPN reported that Dumont oversaw the 12,000-seat Venetian Arena in Macao, which hosts NBA preseason games in China under a five-year agreement now in its second year. He told ESPN the Dallas venue would carry similar luxury elements on a larger scale, with “Texas style elements”.
“That was something we couldn’t do to the scale that we can do in Dallas.”

Why Texas matters for Sands
The Adelson and Dumont families have spent years lobbying Texas lawmakers to allow destination casino resorts, with the Dallas area as Sands’ preferred location. Casino gaming and sports betting remain illegal in Texas. Legalisation needs a constitutional amendment approved by two-thirds of both chambers of the Texas Legislature and then by voters in a statewide referendum.

What happens next
Texas voters elected a governor and lieutenant governor on 3 November 2026. The lieutenant governor presides over the Senate and controls which bills reach the floor. The 90th Texas Legislature opens its regular session on 12 January 2027, the next window for a casino or sports betting amendment. Dumont has not given a timeline for the arena or for buying the further 20% from Cuban.
