Betora is hosting a VIP Lounge at SiGMA Africa 2026 that will bring five former international footballers to the expo floor for a meet-and-greet with industry delegates on 4 March in Cape Town.
The session runs from 13:30 to 16:00 at the Betora Lounge, located at the Grand Arena at GrandWest alongside the main stage. Delegates attending the three-day summit will have the chance to meet the players in person, with the event pitched as an informal gathering for iGaming professionals, operators, and football fans alike.
Five Players, Five Careers
The line-up covers some of the most recognisable names from European football over the past three decades.
Christian Karembeu won the 1998 FIFA World Cup with France, having built his club career across top European sides. Claude Makélélé, widely credited with redefining the defensive midfielder role, claimed the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid in 2002. Ludovic Giuly won the same competition four years later with FC Barcelona in 2006.
Robert Pirès also featured in the France squad that lifted the World Cup in 1998 and is perhaps best known in club football for his role in Arsenal’s unbeaten Premier League title-winning side of 2003/04. Pierre Issa connects the line-up to the African market directly: the South African defender earned 47 caps for Bafana Bafana, featured in both the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups, and played his club football in Europe with Olympique de Marseille and Watford.
Betora’s Play at SiGMA Africa
Betora, which describes itself as a platform aggregation provider focused on scalability and multi-supplier integration, is using the SiGMA Africa edition to position its technology in a market it identifies as a growth priority. The company states it supports operators across multiple markets from a single platform and has flagged Africa as a core area for expansion.
The VIP Lounge is one of several activation formats on the SiGMA Africa expo floor. By pairing an iGaming technology showcase with a football-centred networking draw, Betora is targeting the crossover between sports betting interest and platform procurement decisions at a summit that expects over 250 sponsors and exhibitors this year.
SiGMA Africa 2026 runs from 3 to 5 March at the Grand Arena at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town. The event, powered by Alea, draws operators, regulators, affiliates, and suppliers with a focus on Africa’s regulated gaming, fintech, and emerging technology sectors. A separate Betora Executive Sunset Cruise is also listed in the SiGMA Africa agenda for the evening of 4 March, featuring six legends on a sail along Cape Town’s Atlantis Seaboard.
Africa as a Market Backdrop
The choice of Cape Town as a venue reflects the continent’s growing weight in global iGaming conversations. South Africa’s regulated market continues to attract international operators and suppliers, while the broader continent presents expansion opportunities driven by mobile-first infrastructure and a young demographic base. Emerging market growth across LatAm and Africa has accelerated interest in platforms capable of handling fragmented payment environments and multi-jurisdiction compliance — precisely the operational context Betora is positioning itself against at the event.
The Gaming Regulators Africa Forum (GRAF), in partnership with SiGMA, is scheduled to close the summit on 5 March, bringing African regulators and industry stakeholders together to advance the continent’s gambling regulatory agenda.
