Australian entrepreneur Tim Heath confirms strategic shift from grey markets to Tier 1 licensed operations, marking new era for $2.5 billion gaming group
The move represents a significant shift for the $2.5 billion gaming group, which will consolidate its popular Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino.io platforms under the new regulated structure.
Heath confirmed the decision in a company announcement, citing evolving regulatory landscapes and industry expectations. The gaming executive stated that domestic regulators are increasingly unwilling to accept operators that operate across both regulated and grey markets.
“You cannot be white and grey; you have to pick a side,” Heath explained. “We have chosen the regulated path.”
UAE Market Entry and Expansion Plans
The company is currently in the final stages of securing two UAE B2B vendor licenses from the Gaming and Chance Games Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), representing a major milestone in Yolo’s regulated market strategy.
Following UAE market entry, the group plans expansion into Canada, Sweden, and Finland, demonstrating its commitment to operating within established regulatory frameworks that balance innovation with proper oversight.
As part of the transition, Estonia-licensed Bombay Casino will integrate with the digital platform to provide seamless wallet experiences and MiCA-compliant cryptocurrency payments.
Industry Evolution Drives Strategic Change
Heath reflected on the company’s decade-long journey, highlighting how the gaming and cryptocurrency landscapes have evolved since Yolo’s inception.
“When we started Yolo more than a decade ago, we were driven by curiosity and conviction. We believed in crypto before most people even understood it, and we believed gaming could be fun, fast and fair in ways the industry hadn’t yet imagined,” Heath said.
The CEO noted that early Curaçao licenses allowed Yolo to create Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino.io, platforms that introduced millions of players to crypto gaming.
“But the world has moved on and so have we. Crypto is no longer niche. Regulators and financial institutions are finally recognizing the transformative role it plays. Players everywhere expect speed, accessibility and inclusion as standard. What was once radical is now becoming mainstream,” Heath added.
Market Positioning and Future Outlook
The strategic pivot positions Yolo Group at the forefront of legal, transparent crypto gaming operations as global regulators implement stricter rules for cryptocurrency gambling.
Heath expressed confidence in the company’s new direction: “It’s time for our next chapter: to bring the best of what we’ve built into Tier-1 regulated markets.”
The announcement reflects broader industry trends as early crypto gaming innovators adapt to mature regulatory environments or face potential obsolescence.
“I couldn’t be prouder of how far we’ve come, and I couldn’t be more excited about where we’re going. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has been part of Sportsbet.io and Bitcasino.io – it’s been a crazy ride to the moon. I am, however, very much looking forward to Yolo’s next chapter,” Heath concluded.
The transformation marks a pivotal moment for the crypto gaming sector, demonstrating how established operators are evolving their business models to align with regulatory expectations while maintaining their technological edge.
