Tribal and commercial gaming could lose $7.3bn to $39.4bn in gaming revenue each year if prediction markets keep operating nationwide under federal oversight, according to a forthcoming report from economics firm KlasRobinson Q.E.D. The report was prepared for the Indian Gaming Association (IGA) and has not yet been published.

What the report projects

KlasRobinson economists James Klas and Matt Robinson previewed their findings during an IGA webinar titled “The New Normal: What the Data Tells Us About Prediction Markets”. The session was published on the IGA’s YouTube channel.

The projected loss runs from $7.3bn at the low end to $39.4bn at the high end, per year, across tribal and commercial gaming combined.

Release timing

IGA Executive Director Jason Giles said the report could be released the week after the webinar. KlasRobinson prepared the report for the association.

Prediction markets debate

The figures add a revenue estimate to the debate over whether event contracts offered on federally overseen prediction market platforms compete with state-licensed and tribal gaming.
