Ontario iGaming handle hits C$9.88bn in July, a record

Ontario took C$9.884bn in wagers in July, up 30.7% year on year, with online casino revenue at a record C$330.4m, according to iGaming Ontario.

Ontario’s regulated iGaming market took C$9.884 billion in cash wagers in July, a 4% increase on June and 30.7% more than July 2025, according to iGaming Ontario (iGO). It is the highest monthly handle recorded since the market opened in April 2022.

Operator non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) reached C$413.6 million, up 3% on the month and 33.1% on the year. That is the second-highest monthly revenue figure in the market’s history, behind the C$426 million posted in December 2025.

Casino takes 89% of wagers and 80% of revenue

Online casino produced C$8.78 billion of July’s handle, close to 89% of the total, up around 6% on June’s C$8.30 billion and 30.2% on July 2025.

Casino NAGGR was C$330.4 million, a record for the vertical. That is 4.3% above June’s C$316.8 million and 30.9% above the C$252.4 million reported in July 2025. Casino accounted for 80% of all operator revenue in the province.

Across the first seven months of 2026, Ontario’s licensed operators have generated C$2.19 billion in casino revenue, 30.1% more than the same period in 2025. The vertical has led the market on both handle and revenue in every month since launch, the same pattern the May results showed.

Sports betting grows faster from a smaller base

Sports betting handle was C$992 million, roughly 10% of the market, up 44.2% year on year. Sports NAGGR made up 19% of the province’s total, close to C$78 million, up 47.2% on July 2025.

That works out at a hold of about 7.9% of amounts staked, calculated from the iGO figures. Sports betting margin moves with results, and a single month says little on its own.

The Copa América ran from 11 June to 19 July and lifted sportsbook handle through the first three weeks of the month. August figures will show how much of that traffic stayed.

Peer-to-peer poker took C$116 million in wagers and about 1% of operator revenue, the smallest of the three verticals by a wide distance.

1.365 million active accounts at C$303 each

iGO counted 1.365 million active player accounts in July. Average revenue per account was C$303, calculated from the month’s NAGGR. iGO counts an account as active when it is funded and used within the reporting period, so the figure moves with both player numbers and playing frequency.

48 operators, 83 gaming sites

Ontario ended July with 48 licensed operators running 83 gaming websites. iGO’s figures exclude Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG), the provincial operator, which reports separately.

Hard Rock Bet went live in the province during July, its first market outside the United States. It runs a sportsbook alongside an online casino with more than 3,000 games, tied to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Ottawa.

Ontario applies a 20% revenue share to operator NAGGR. On July’s total that implies about C$83 million for the province from a single month, calculated from the iGO figure.

Alberta opens on the same model

Alberta launched a competitive private iGaming market on 13 July 2026, using the framework Ontario introduced in 2022. By late August it had 29 active sites run by 19 companies, against Ontario’s 83 sites and 48 operators.

Ontario’s vertical split is the closest read available on where Alberta lands once its market matures. If casino holds 80% of revenue there too, operators will earn most of their Alberta money from the casino rather than the sportsbook, whatever the sportsbook does for sign-ups.

Participation growth has drawn scrutiny alongside the revenue. CAMH’s 2025 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey found 10% of Ontario students bet on sports online, up from 1% in 2019.

August will be the first full month with Hard Rock Bet live throughout and the first without a major summer football tournament. iGO publishes the next set of figures in September.
